At an awards luncheon on March 29, 2019, the Fall/Winter 2018 issue of our quarterly magazine Safety Decisions was officially recognized as a finalist for a Jesse H. Neal Award for Best Single Issue of a Magazine.
Jesse H. Neal Awards are described as the most prestigious editorial honors in the field of specialized journalism. Named after Jesse H. Neal, the first managing director of Connectiv, the Neal Awards were established in 1955 to recognize and reward editorial excellence in business media. Safety Decisions is honored to be recognized as a finalist for Best Single Issue of a Tabloid/Newspaper/Magazine!
The
Our Fall/Winter 2018 issue was anchored by a cover story written by Emily Scace titled “Drug Testing: Essential Safety Tool or Reporting Deterrent?” This in-depth article covered the types of drug testing along with regulatory context, antiretaliation and policy implications, enforcement, and important questions to ask if you’re considering a postaccident drug test in your workplace.
The issue was further supported by a feature written by one of the most recognized names in behavioral safety, E. Scott Geller, PhD, titled “Seven Life Lessons for Safety and Beyond: Evidence-Based Principles for Improving Human Well-Being.” This edition also provided a wide array of content from contributors including Gary Alexander, Josh LeBrun, Mark Nicholls, and Brian Feeley, plus pieces from regular columnist Ray Prest, contributing editor William C. Schillaci, and Senior Editor Justin Scace. Copywriters Linda Costa, Joan Carlson, and Amanda Fava ensured that all articles met the highest editorial standards of quality.
Guided by the steady hand of Art Director Doug Ponte and with eye-catching original illustrations from Simplify Compliance design team members Jason Gregory and Reggie Cunningham, the final product was a magazine issue very worthy of this recognition.
